My New Gig

Posted by on Sep 16, 2012 | 2 comments

I’m excited to announce that I’ll be writing articles (hopefully on a regular basis) for HBO Watch, a fan-run community website for HBO shows and mini-series. Since I’m kind of an HBO show fangirl, I figured it was a good way to work on my non-fic writing and also get some bylines out in the world somewhere other than my own website. My first article ever, a reading list for True Blood fans who are in withdrawal while the show is on hiatus, was put up last week while I was on vacation. Along with True Blood, I’ll also be writing articles for the upcoming American Gods...

Collaboration Station

A few months ago, I mentioned I was starting a project with four other writers to build a collaborative world in which we would each set one novel. I wanted to relate some of my experiences for people interested in collaborative storytelling because I’m pretty excited about what we’ve accomplished so far. I went into the project with quite a few doubts, but I figured even if the group fell apart I’d still have some valuable experience and probably some ideas I could recycle into another story. Since we began corresponding, I’ve had nothing but good feelings. At first the process was slow. We...

Elements Cover Reveal

Posted by on Apr 14, 2012 | 4 comments

Woohoo! I got my finalized cover for Elements back earlier this week from the wonderful Amanda Kelsey at Razzle Dazzle Design. As some of you probably remember from my previous rant, I’ve had a tough time getting this one out the door. From editing through now, I think it’s taken twice as long as Broods did. I’m really pleased with how the cover turned out, though! You ready to see it? You sure? Here it comes! You likey? I’m still waiting for one more piece before I ship the whole thing off to my formatter, but I’m hoping it will hit the virtual shelves on or...

Fickle and Frustrated

Today’s blogpost is brought to you by the letter W, as in WHINE. I’m having such a hard time with everything about this second release. I’m angsting over the blurb, obsessing over the cover, and all around unhappy with everything about it, just now. My poor cover designer must think I’m neurotic. I know my editor is tired of hearing from me. I have no idea why this book is so much more difficult than the first one. Considering all the trouble I’ve had since the beginning of the editing phase, f I were the superstitious type, I’d say that maybe this book...

Google Friend Connect Fail

Posted by on Nov 25, 2011 | Comments Off on Google Friend Connect Fail

I got an email today that mentioned that Google Friend Connect would be going away. At first I thought perhaps the person was mistaken because so many sites use it, but according to Google the Friend Connect will be discontinued for all non-Blogger sites as of March 2012. This presents a problem for me since about half of the followers of this blog use that tool. What’s really annoying is that I have no basis to complain, since they provided a free convenient service and have every right to discontinue it. Still, it makes my life difficult so I’m grumpy about it. GFC followers,...

November Musings

Posted by on Nov 23, 2011 | 1 comment

This is a catch-up post in which I’ll babble about general goings on this month. First, check this out: Cool, right? Someone (sorry, I can’t remember which one of you) linked Wordle to me a few months ago, and it was on my list of neat stuff to do when I finished my book. You paste any text you want into the box and there’s a bunch of settings you can play with to get a cool looking collage with font size based on word frequency. This one is of the full text of Broods, set to remove common words (and, the, etc.). I love it! I’ve got to figure out if there is a way I...
