Bees Hum ‘Cause They Don’t Know the Words

I wrote 1257 words yesterday, pretty darned good ones I think. I amused myself last night by going back and reading some of my older work and picking out the adverbs and passive verbs. On reflection my writing is much more solid without them, but it is more difficult to get the words on the page. Although, since I’ve been concentrating on making these two improvements I have met my goal, so perhaps the difficulty makes for easier writing in my head. I’m not sure. I will stick with the new way for now and see how it goes. I’m a research junkie. I love to look up information for my stories. In...

Busy Busy

I wrote 597 words last night and crappy words they were. Well, about half were crappy. I did write two pages worth of character profiles yesterday, so I think that counts for something. I have a busy day today, with the house inspection on the new place, a showing for the old place, and class. I am hoping to get my words done today, but it may not happen. I am resigned to not getting much done in the next month and a half while this move is happening. Additionally I have to do the final project for my class in the next couple of weeks. I finally got to the “good” part of On Writing. That’s...

Baby you don’t know

I didn’t write a single word yesterday. Is it ok to retroactively declare it a day off? I think it is. It’s not reasonable to work every day, even if I do find it to be enjoyable work. I’ll try to take one day off each weekend I think, although I’m not sure if it will be better to make it Saturday or Sunday. That will give me a chance to do some things in the new house as well, which is a good idea. Yesterday I worked for a while changing up some things on the web site, which I am pleased with. I got custom fields working right so I no longer have to type in a line for words written and...

That’s my fun day

Three days running I have achieved my goal! I think next weekend I will increase my daily words, but for this week I am going to leave it at 1000 per day and see how it goes. I finished the scene that I have been working on last night, and thought of an interesting plot point that I am building in. Nothing spectacular or story altering, but an intriguing addition that helps build the richness of the world and at the same time gives a deeper sense of one of the main characters. I’m having a good time writing these last few scenes that I’ve been working, although the writing...

Rainy Day Blues

I made my writing goal for two days in row! I didn’t quite finish a scene but I reached a good stopping point and decided to leave something to continue on with today. I realized while I was writing last night that one of the reasons that I am having so much trouble finishing up the story is because most of the scenes that are left don’t really have any action. They are mostly character development scenes with lots of dialog so they tend to feel the same especially when written one after another. A lot of the character development filler that I’m writing now might even be edited out...

Dreams of Lycanthropy

Hurray! I managed to achieve my goal last night, so I am now 50/50 overall. I finished up one more transitional scene, leaving me with twenty-four more left. I think this works well for me, having goals written down where they can be fretted over later if I don’t accomplish them is a good motivator for me. My temptation is to throw caution to the win and up my words because it’s the weekend. Just so I don’t get too far ahead of myself though, I will try for another 1000 words tonight. I also made my magazine spread last night. It’s actually more like a brochure I guess, for the San Diego...
