I’ll be seeing you in all the old familiar places

I wrote a lovely scene yesterday. One of my best so far I think. It’s interesting to see the improvement in only a few months of (mostly) consistent writing. I look at some of the first few scenes that I wrote and cringe at how bad they are. The good side of that is that the improvement is so obvious, and that means that I’m not really wasting my time. Right? Yeah, that’s what I thought too! I really could use a few more hours in the day. It seems like I’m trying to squeeze so many things into the few hours I have after work. Work should end earlier I say. When I run...

Not a terrible session yesterday. I sabotaged myself (as usual) by playing around with the site a bit. I didn’t change it much and mostly just tried to get my word count graphs to look nicer. I did some more research today on the Google Chart API so if I need something else to do tonight I’ve already got it all set up. I’m efficient like that. I don’t know why I even bother to play with it. I only have one reader (HI HONEY) and he’s inconstant at best. Mostly I look at this as a reflective tool where I can track some interesting tidbits as well. If I have to...

Sympathy for the Devil

I kicked ass yesterday! I just wanted to share that. Really great writing session, I was so excited to finish out an integral scene that I’ve been missing for a long time. I need to finish up this book quickly because I got another idea for a story today while I was out on my walk. I’m not sure if it will be a short story or not, I have tried not to dwell on it too much. I think I’m just addicted to the idea phase. When everything comes so quickly that I can’t even get it on paper fast enough. So now I have two stories that don’t belong there kicking around in...

Spare the stick, Spoil the writer

I started work on a short story yesterday, which was a bad idea. I’m trying very hard not to touch it again today and instead work on a scene I had left unfinished in my book, but it’s difficult. If I finish my words for today I will maybe reward myself (ha-ha) with some time for the short story. The story is set in the same world as the book, but it has a point of view of a character we never see in the book before anything there occurs. I suppose I could eventually use the story as an introduction, but I like where the book starts now and I’m reluctant to change it....

Just a quick post today. I’m behind schedule and I want to finish of my words for the night. I had a fairly uneventful time writing yesterday. It’s difficult trying to keep my adverb usage to a minimum, sometimes I have to reword sentences several times before I find one that is workable. Overall the wording does seem stronger, so I’m going to keep with it for a while. the passive voice is even harder to avoid. I find myself using it a lot. I suppose being conscious of it is the first step to improving.
